NAVER is set to shutdown VLIVE in 2022

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

VLIVE is well known to KPOP Fans as one of the best apps to interact with your favorite band and members.

as of today, VLIVE will exist only for another few months as Naver corporation the company that owns the app announced that they will combine their leadership in transmission and streaming capability with the power of reach and business experience that HYBE owns.

the integration between VLIVE and WEVERSE will take about a year to create a new app

The main reason for this desicion as NAVER CEO stated is: in order to expand our influence to the global market, there is a need to go beyond the competition with domestic platforms and to closely collaborate with a competitive platform that we can create synergy with. The addition of K content to our globally competitive K technology will make us a matchless player in global entertainment. She added: The fandom culture is now spreading into various fields, creating cultural and economic value. We found potential growth in the global market through VLIVE and WEVERSE, which consists of 85 percent of international fans.

Is safe to say that NAVER and HYBE are motivated to create the perfect app for KPOP fans taking it to another level, but fans are worried due to rumors that the new app will be available only for artists that have ties with HYBE leaving the small companies and bands without a possibility to grow as BTS once did when in 2013 were a small band signed with a respective small company, that with the support of fans grew to become the most successful band in KPOP history.

Until the merge between the apps, Kim Joo Kwan future CTO of beNX stated that during the period of integration VLIVE, and WEVERSE will operate normally.
